The mind often returns to the same memory, conversation or disappointment. We can mistake this as failure, believing we should have moved on by now.
Perhaps the mind is not trying to keep us trapped. Perhaps it simply has not yet discovered another way of relating to what happened.
More thinking rarely brings peace. It usually brings another layer of the same experience. What begins to change things is not more analysis, but awareness. As we become curious about what is happening within us, a little space appears between ourselves and the story we keep repeating.
From that space, another relationship becomes possible.
The experience may not disappear immediately, but our need to return to it begins to soften. Sometimes the mind lets go, not because it has forgotten, but because it has finally found somewhere new to settle.
